Me talk pretty one day.

I did my schooling from India, and during my high school I took up French for about a year. From beginning I always wanted to learn French or Spanish. And when I was in 11th, I had a chance to take either of them as a foreign language. I knew Spanish would be a lot easier than French, and at first I was leaning towards Spanish but my friends persuaded me to take French. I was excited to take French because I always found the language fascinating. I wanted to learn Spanish at the first because the Spanish teacher was cool and lenient, and it would help me in the other part of the world. So as the course started I was focused and interest to learn French. I even took French classes at home during the breaks. I found French language difficult and by that time it was too late to switch to Spanish or any other language class. We started of with basic and beginners French which was easy but as the course moved on it became hard to understand. In my last year of high school, I dropped the French class and was not able to complete my French. After dropping the course, little French that I had learned also got erased and I never had the chance to learn it again. I would love to be fluent in French some day.

"What We Talk About When We Talk About Love"

I am asked all the time what I love by my wife and am never truly able to answer because she does not really want to her the answer. That goes for about 90% of the people that ask such a deep question. I have learned in my psychology and other experiences in life that people think about weird things and all are a little wacky. Some just hide the truth better than others. While someone might argue that there definition of love is the right one, like in the story “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love” by Raymond Carver. For example, Mel says love is not when a person is abused by somebody and Terri argues that it is. She had experienced this so called love by an ex-boyfriend and does not want to look like a fool for being with him and taking the abuse. So she says that he loved her in a different way. The example might be hard to follow so let me attempt to clear it up. No body wants to look stupid or be made fun of because of their weird, sick, odd, or whatever they think people might perceive their love for something is. The thing is that there is a lot of people in the world we the same loves. They too are just afraid to say it because society does not except it. No matter how hard people try or how good someone is, everybody tells lies. This might be a little off the subject but kind of in the same ballpark.

When I went to mexico

3. Have you been to France or a foreign country where you did not know the language? Did you have anxieties about speaking French with the native speakers? What did you do? Did you have any particularly embarrassing gaffes?

I went to Mexico my senior year of high school. My dad and his wife were going and invited me out of no where. I was very excited to go but I was worried I would not be able to speak to anyone. How would I ask where the bathroom was? Well, living in Texas has made it a little easy. We have a lot of Spanish influences already. I memorized bano... restroom when I went to a Mexican food restaurant. :) ha! Really though, it was not as bad as I expected. I guess it was a lot easier then going to France or Germany. Germany would be better then France because I took it two years in a row in high school, and it was fresher in my mind then. In all my trip was very enjoyable. I was in with all the tourists and most of the people that lived there knew English well enough we could converse with no problem. I would go back and I would love to learn more Spanish. I think I would have a lot better time and I would use it when I traveled there. It would be awesome to impress the people I would go with.

me talk pretty question

I only took one year of a foreign language all the way through my senior year of high school. I took German and I found myself talking mostly about German Table Tennis players and musicians. These things while being normal for me where very strange to most of my class mates. I would spend entire class sessions on explaining the rules of table tennis and the German program and why the Germans are better than us in table tennis. At first my love of table tennis and German table tennis players was attacked by my classmates as being weird and obsessive. Which I promptly told them was true and explained to them why they should be more like me. The teacher loved every minute of it and we discussed German history, which strangely never involved World War II. I even got my teacher to allow me to spend an entire class period talking about table tennis and I brought in a video of the German national team playing. I was a bit of a teacher's pet and was always not only on time but early. I finished that class with an A and I didn't do any of the homework assignments because the teacher told me I didn't have to do them. In a class where the homework counts for 20% of your overall grade I was bound to get an A. So the answer to the question is I have never had that experience in a language class and probably never will.

"Me Talk Pretty One Day" Discussion Questions

1. In the language classroom, as the narrator mentions, we are often asked to talk about
things that we would never in reality talk about:

“How often is one asked what he loves in this world? More to the point, how often is one asked and then publicly ridiculed for his answer?”

Have you ever had a similar feeling in a language classroom?

2. How are Sedaris' perceptions of this country affected by living outside it? Why might a culture be clearer to an outside observer? How does this affect his view of France?

3. Have you been to France or a foreign country where you did not know the language? Did you have anxieties about speaking French with the native speakers? What did you do? Did you have any particularly embarrassing gaffes?

the things they carried class assignment

The Things They Carried

1. Ted Lavender’s death was first mentioned within the first page of the story. His death is mentioned briefly and only to explain that “Ted – carried six or seven ounces of premium dope” before he was shot.
2. Ted Lavender’s first described three pages into the story as O’Brien details the men’s reactions after Lavender died.
3. The ways that Lieutenant Cross is described in the beginning and end of the story are different. When the story began Lieutenant Cross was completely tied to his letters from Martha and as the story ended he had burned his letters from Martha because he realized that even though he once loved that the letters took him away from the reality of war, he finally grasped that he could not escape war.
4. Throughout the story Lieutenant Cross’s feeling for Martha change in that in the beginning he held onto her letters for a sense of normalcy and that consumed his mind while he should have been more focused on the war. After Ted Lavender was killed, Lieutenant Cross realized that he needed to become more focused about the war and the troops that he was in charge of, and that he was not “obligated” “to be loved [by his men] but to lead.”
5. Martha’s letters served as an escape for the Lieutenant and a reminder of normal life.
6. After Lavender died Lieutenant Cross took his command more seriously and realized that his job does not require him to be liked by his men.
7. The story can be broken up into two main groups : The things they carried and The Lives they lead. The first category would involve all of the descriptions on what the men carried and why. The second, would detail their missions while in the military and their lives now. The first paragraph tells the readers what the paragraph is going to be about.

The Things They Carried

throughout the story The liutenant remembers the death of Lavender, and he relates that death to Martha. This changes his approach to leading his troops. He becomes very down to business and doesn't care who likes him. Also the story tells the structure of the things that the soldiers carry with them to help them feel more comfortable in their environment. Such as a rabbit foot, marijuana, all the different guns, and pictures of their loved ones.

"The Things They Carried" Discussion Questions

1. What are the costs of war, in your opinion? What do you think O'Brien sees as the costs of war? What costs of war do we see daily in the news? Is war, in your opinion, worth the cost?

2. Write a one-paragraph summary of "The Things They Carried." Speaking literally, figuratively, and psychologically, as O'Brien does, what are the things you carry?

3. What do you think about O'Brien's claim: "This book is not about war, but about love, and really, about writing and the power of the story." How does this statement apply to the short story?

Wide Open Spaces

I know it is past the dead line for extra credit for the song lyrics, but I heard this song today that I had not heard in years. "Wide Open Spaces" by the Dixi Chicks reminds me of myself when I left for college this year. This song is about a girl leaving her parents and going out on her own. Growing up, my family and I came to Fort Worth many times a year to visit family, for my softball tournaments, and several other reasons. Fort Worth always intregued me. A few years ago, when I thought about where I would go to college, I never even thought of Fort Worth.
I have always been very independent (I guess every since I was 4 years old, when I had been taking dance classes for 3 months at my montesoury school without my parents knowing. I wanted to dance, and I so I did it myself!) I have always made my own mistakes and learned from them (Sometimes this is a downfall, but I believe I would not be as strong as I am if I did not live like this). As the girl in this song, I felt I had to come west and make a life of my own. It would take me hours to describe how well this song relates to me, but this is one of the songs that touches me th most.

"Wide Open Spaces"
Who doesn't know what I'm talking about
Who's never left home, who's never struck out
To find a dream and a life of their own
A place in the clouds, a foundation of stone
Many precede and many will follow
A young girl's dream no longer hollow
It takes the shape of a place out west
But what it holds for her, she hasn't yet guessed

[Chorus:] She needs wide open spaces
Room to make her big mistakes She needs new faces
She knows the high stakes

She traveled this road as a child
Wide eyed and grinning, she never tired
But now she won't be coming back with the rest
If these are life's lessons, she'll take this test

[Repeat Chorus]She knows the high stakes

As her folks drive away, her dad yells, "Check the oil!"
Mom stares out the window and says, "I'm leaving my girl"
She said, "It didn't seem like that long ago"
When she stood there and let her own folks know

She needs wide open spaces Room to make her big mistakes She needs new faces She knows the high stakes
For our group writing project, Cory, Eric, and I are writing a series of letters. The genre of the letter series is sort of a “Dear Abby” meets the book and new movie, He’s Just Not that Into You. There will be different people sending letters seeking advice about things they want or long for, but can not get and need to learn how to cope with that longing. We will use the texts, “On Longing”, “The Red Convertible”, and “The Things They Carried”. We thought about using some personal experiences for the problem letters and the advice would come from the texts we have chosen.
I know that I have had trouble finding the time or subjects to write about for this blog, so I decided to post this and give you all sort of a “free-be” subject to post about. If you would like, you could post some ideas about personal experiences you have gone through that we might be able to use for our project. You could make something up or give a real life personal experience, you could even post it as an example letter. I hope this post helps some of you out with blog posting, or even give you some ideas for your own writing projects! Good luck and see you in class!

Brad Paisley "She's Everything"

"She's Everything"

She's a yellow pair of running shoes
A holey pair of jeans
She looks great in cheap sunglasses
She looks great in anything
She's I want a piece of chocolate
Take me to a movie
She's I can't find a thing to wear
Now and then she's moody

She's a Saturn with a sunroof
With her brown hair a-blowing
She's a soft place to land
And a good feeling knowing
She's a warm conversation
That I wouldn't miss for nothing
She's a fighter when she's mad
And she's a lover when she's loving

[Chorus]
And she's everything I ever wanted
And everything I need
I talk about her, I go on and on and on
'Cause she's everything to me

She's a Saturday out on the town
And a church girl on Sunday
She's a cross around her neck
And a cuss word 'cause its Monday
She's a bubble bath and candles
Baby come and kiss me
She's a one glass of wine
And she's feeling kinda tipsy

She's the giver I wish I could be
And the stealer of the covers
She's a picture in my wallet
Of my unborn children's mother
She's the hand that I'm holding
When I'm on my knees and praying
She's the answer to my prayer
And she's the song that I'm playing

[Repeat chorus]

She's the voice I love to hear
Someday when I'm ninety
She's that wooden rocking chair
I want rocking right beside me
Everyday that passes
I only love her more
Yeah, she's the one
That I'd lay down my own life for

And she's everything I ever wanted
And everything I need
She's everything to me
Yeah she's everything to me

Everything I ever wanted
And everything I need
She's everything to me

[Thanks to Tim Anderson for lyrics]

This is a great song to me. I've always liked Brad Paisley's style of songwriting. He brings such emotion into all of his songs. He writes most of them in dedication to his wife. I hope to one day have this song played at my wedding. As a country artist, Brad brings something new to the table in every hit song he comes out with. He is pure genius.

Thrice- In Years to Come

Again, it is far past the due date for extra credit on the song lyrics assignment for the blog posts but I still have the urge to share what is one of my favorite songs. Thrice is a melodic post-hardcore band from Irvine, California. Their lyrics and music have influenced me a great deal as I made the decision in high school to become a songwriter and continue my work as a musician today.

This song, as most in this genre are... is about feelings for a girl.

I would really suggest listening to this because it is filled with so much more emotion in the singer's voice and the variation of the music tempo.

thanks,

Josh Morgan

i want to take the bullet, the one aimed straight for your heart,

i want to meet the wolves halfway, and let them tear me apart.

but that's not the way they do it here.

i want to lay on the tracks, feel hot steel screaming at me,

expose the bones on my back, let me show you what i mean

yeah its a different kind of love,

i want to climb barbed wire fencesand warm our hands in blood.

and this is my gift,is asking you to fix my ruined hands.
and its a gift that keeps on giving, and its a gift that keeps on giving,
and its a gift that keeps on giving, and right now its all i have to give.

i want to write the perfect song, and play it just for you, while you are tangled up in sleep.i need you more than ill ever knowuntil i stop breathing my lungs will take you for granted.

Cannonball By: Damien Rice

Cannonball Lyrics
Artist(Band):Damien Rice
Review The Song (77)Print the Lyrics

there’s still a little bit of your taste in my mouth
there’s still a little bit of you laced with my doubt
it’s still a little hard to say what's going on

there’s still a little bit of your ghost your witness
there’s still a little bit of your face i haven't kissed
you step a little closer each day
that I can´t say what´s going on

stones taught me to fly
love, it taught me to lie
life, it taught me to die
so it's not hard to fall
when you float like a cannonball

there’s still a little bit of your song in my ear
there’s still a little bit of your words i long to hear
you step a little closer to me
so close that I can´t see what´s going on

stones taught me to fly
love taught me to lie
life taught me to die
'cos its not hard to fall,
and I don't want to scare her
its not hard to fall
and i don't want to lose
its not hard to grow
when you know that you just don't know

stones taught me to fly
love taught me to lie
life taught me to die
so its not hard to fall
when you float like a cannon.

stones taught me to fly
love taught me to cry
so come on courage, teach me to be shy
'cos its not hard to fall,
when you float like a cannon

-I love this song. Damien Rice is an Irish folk singer and all his songs have so much feeling. The way he describes things in his lyrics lets you know that his feeling are real and this has happened to him in some point in his life. His music is so real and when I listen to this song I feel like I can relate to him. This song has been on a few movie soundtracks but other than just a couple of other songs, he really is not that well known here in the U.S. This song is talking about how he has been hurt in the past and is wanting to love someone but can not get past his fear. He might be fearing that she does not feel the same for him if he expresses it to her and lose her or that he might get in to deep to get out. I think most people can relate to this subject because we have all worried about expressing our feelings to a guy or girl. Also the thrill of a new relationship that has both people on their toes. Its a wonderful feeling and a great time in all of our lives.

WILLIAM FITZSIMMONS

So for this music blog I thought all week about which song I wanted to use, and finally after long consideration I decided to go with a William Fitzsimmons song. Largely, because I went to his amazing concert last night. The lyrics that I am using are from his song "You Broke My Heart" from his '07 album "Goodnight."

Lyrics to You Broke My Heart :
Fourteen years is all you made it
till forgiveness was frustrated
I was sorry you missed Christmas
do you think that you'll still miss us
i was angry when you left us
and it showed up on my mattress
and i told myself it's better if we only talk in letters
you broke my heart
you broke my heart
did you think about my mother when you shared the same bed cover
did you wonder if it changed her when your sons became your stranger
when will you admit your lonely
since we split apart the family
all the pictures are updated
all of us are separated
you broke my heart
you broke my heart
you broke my heart
i don't feel it anymore
you broke my heart
I don't feel it anymore you broke my ...

-I am a HUGE William Fitzsimmons fan and I own all three of his cd's I think that he is an amazing lyricist as well as guitar player. All of his songs are written with so much truth which is refreshing. The majority of his songs are written about divorce, his parents when he was younger and then his own. I really like this song because I feel that it gives a different aspect to the typical songs about heart break. This song may first seemingly be another sad love song about an ended romantic relationship. Actually, from William's perspective (because the song is about him) this song is about how his dad broke his heart when he cheated on his mom "shared the same bed cover" and left their family. When this happened to Fitzsimmons it completely changed his life at a young age. Although his perspective within the song is that of someone who is looking back on this event, it is still very clear that his father's infidelity is still a part of him.

Review about Until It Sleeps
The unReal meaning of this song Reviewer: Anonymous 3/17/09Oh its about cancer and also taking little bits and wondering about what they mean and also about smoking and drug addiction and in some parts drinking its also about being big and curing things for the first time for no reason. *suspicious fake cough*Mal-Altar, it makes sense to you because you wrote the meanings. You can really make all the lines anything, a lot of the meanings don't even make much sense...don't pride that section so much.
Open your eyes to the almost certain meaning Reviewer: Mal-Atar 3/15/09Sometimes you people DON'T think. These lyrics talk about cancer, get used to it. If you want to give them another meaning, you're free to do it, that's nice about music, you can shape it to your own personal life. But don't try to change it's original meaning with theories even after the original artist talked about it.I even dare to say the lyrics were made thinking about his mother perspective! You cannot take a part of the lyrics and say "LOOK IT IS LIKE THAT!"You have to fully analyse it.Where do I take this pain of mine (He/She CANNOT take it, because cancer is INSIDE)I run but it stays right by my side (Yes, it is inside, always with the person with cancer, wherever they go!)So tear me open and pour me out (surgery is the first treatment to cancer, so "tear me open and pour me out", like take it away)There's things inside that scream and shout (may be the reference to the tumor)And the pain still hates me (of course, cancer hurts like hell)So hold me until it sleeps (he/she asks for some kind of protection, "sleep" may be reference to death)Just like the curse, just like the stray (oh yes, a cancer IS like a curse that never leaves you! "Stray" may be reference to the spread of the cancer to the rest of the body)You feed it once and now it stays (yes, it starts like a small tumor, that grows up and up and up, feeding from your own body)Now it staysSo tear me open but beware (you want a new surgery, but you must be careful)There's things inside without a care (cancer is the overgrowth "without a care" of deficient cells)And the dirt still stains me ("And tha cancer stills in me even after all these treatments, surgery and chemotherapy")So wash me until I'm clean (keep "washing"/Healing/Treating me until the cancer is clean)It grips you so hold me (cancer grips your body like hell!)It stains you so hold me (it surelly "stains" you, many cases until death)It hates you so hold me (of course it hates you..)It holds you so hold me (it's like a way of comparing the curse and the protection)Until it sleepsSo tell me why you've chosen me (we don't fully know the causes of cancer)Don't want your grip, don't want your greed (who the hell wants the "grip" of cancer, that never lets you go? and it's greed that eats your own body?)Don't want itI'll tear me open make you gone (like a last hope of cleaning the cancer)No more can you hurt anyone (it may refer the pain caused to the own sick person and all the relatives and loved one who fight by his/her side)And the fear still shakes me (even if the cancer seems clean and positively progressing, it may at any time regrow or reappear)So hold me, until it sleeps-- And repeating the lyrics --It's quite simple you see? Makes perfect sense to me!
The meaning Reviewer: ---- 2/7/09I really believe this song deals with cancer. If you listen close to le lyrics you'll see. These have to do with hetfield's mom death, she died of cancer and these song really reflects what it does to someone
It is about Drug addiction / Alcholism Reviewer: Daniel 2/5/09Just like the curse, just like the strayYou feed it once and now it staysNow it staysThis line is in regards to the one is to many and a thousand is never enough. So tear me open but bewareThere's things inside without a careAnd the dirt still stains meSo wash me until I'm cleanThis is in regards to dealing with the inner termoul that causes addicts to act the way they do and dealing twiht it.So tell me why you've chosen meDon't want your grip, don't want your greedDon't want itThis is in despair that drug addicts have asking why me why do I have to be like this, and hating what it does to you and other people around youIt grips you so hold meIt stains you so hold meIt hates you so hold meIt holds you so hold meUntil it sleepsThis is talking about like NA or AA having someone there like a sponsour or so to help you get through the cravings. Drug addiction and alcholism is a real monster. James Hetfield is an alcholic so this is definently what the song is about. But it can mean what ever you like.
Until It Sleeps-Real Meaning Reviewer: Ellie 12/20/08The real meaning of Until it sleeps is James's Ego. The part "You Feed It Once And Now It Stays" means someone once told James "Hey, your big and bad!" and so James thought "Yeah, I Am, Aren't I?!" And, so someone "fed it" and now it Says with him forever. Metallica is my life, and I can't go two hours without them!! No Kidding!! Awesome Song Reviewer: Chuck 12/9/08Well put phil. I remember turning on the radio to help me feel better after my ex broke up with me. this was one of the first songs that played and it made me feel better. Since I have never been in any real pysical pain I cannot relate to that but I am sure someone who has experience massive trauma would automatically relate the lyrics to that pain. Or it could relate to the loss of a loved one.I think that is when you know an artist has succeded is when a song can effect a multitude of different people in different ways.
songs mean different things to different people Reviewer: Phil 12/8/08even if an artist says that the song is about this or that, whatever people feel when they hear it, thats what it means to that person, a lot of people relate songs to places they been, situations they were in, things that happened, in either the timeframe when they hear the song, or they relate back when they hear it, whatever... but wether you have cancer, your loved one left you, or you got an A in gym, if thats what you feel when you hear the song, then thats what the song means.... to you.
Message in songs Reviewer: Timberking 11/27/08I love how everyone thinks they know exactly what the meaning is behind every song they listen to. Most often times even the artist has no idea when asked the meaning behind his masterpiece. Chris Cornell made an appearance on The Howard Stern Show a while back where he played an acoustic version of "Black Hole Sun". Howard asked him what the song meant to him, Chris replied, "I dunno. It sounds cool so I wrote it." Have a look at THOSE lyrics and tell me what their meaning is.CheersTimberking
Paranoid schizophrenia Reviewer: Faust 10/11/08I know this song can have many meanings to different people. Which is another reason its such a great song. Anyway,It reminds me of alot of the symptoms that people with Paranoid schizophrenia experience. Every word and of every verse rings true to those of us who have this horrible disorder.A very condensed, breif description of the thoughs and feelings of an indiviual with Paranoid schizophrenia disorder.
Until It Sleeps Reviewer: Anonymous 8/22/08when i turn 18 i will be getting a tattoo with the words 'Until It Sleeps'. this song means so much to me. i was 15 when i got hodgkins lymphoma. best and worst experience of my life. no one should go through what i have been through.

This is one of my favorite songs by my favorite band. I couldn't figure out how to only post the lyrics so youare going to get other peoples views on the song as well. The lead singer of Metallica (James Hetfield) wrote this song and performed it with Metallica. When he wrote this song his mother had just died from cancer. A disease that would kill both of his parents. Hetfield is known for having very dark lyrics and has a mental disease himself. Because he is so well known for this talent of making everyhting dark most people take this song in a very dark context. Most people take it as meaning that he is suffering through enourmous amounts of pain and he is suffering through some kind of depression. What is not widely known is that during the time he was writing this song he was taking medication for his illness. This medication was meant to stabilze his mind and helphim from being so dark. So while the song is all about pain I believe he is talking about the pain going away and his other finally being able to rest in peace. James was obviously going through a tough time in his life because his mother had just died from cancer but I believe that he was seeing the death in a much more positive light. This song cannot be all about pain and suffering if that theory is correct. If Hetfield saw the death of his mother in a positive light then he was writing more about the death of pain.
