Well I was listening to talk radio today and Rush Limbaw said that the Swine Flu had broke level six but it seems to be losing some of it deadliness. While Mr. Limbaw is not a specialist in diseases or anything but he is very well known for being well informed. Anyway many people are in a hysteria over this new mutation of the virus that we all know too well. The thing people either forget or don't realize is that there are nearly 30,000 deaths because of normal Influenza every year. People are in an uproar because many specialists are comparing this mutation of the flu to the plague of 1918. What people do not realize is while this may be an accurate comparison as far as the disease is concerned it is not anywhere near accurate when we compare the hygiene and medical developments that we have today to back then. Also while it is easier to spread a disease now because of international travel rates people are much more aware of the disease and are taking many of the necessary precautions.

ReplyDeleteI too feel that this whole swine flu thing is being blown way out of proportion. Not to say that I do not feel that people should take care of themselves and protect themselves from anything that could harm them but, I think that the media is only benefiting from causing this mass hysteria. I was talking with a friend the other day and she told me about a previous conversation she had where a friend told her that within these past few weeks were people have been infected with swine flu hysteria over seven hundred people have been diagnosed with HIV! Do we hear about this on the evening news, of course not. Maybe my feelings on this matter are swayed because I have not been a fan on the media since my friend went missing almost three years ago. But, either way I think it is very sad that you have people walking around the street wearing surgical masks in fear of getting the swine flu, when you still have a mass majority of people that will not wear a condom to protect themselves from HIV.
